Cast paper

Cast paper

Cast Paper is a paper crafting technique in which cotton fiber paper is "cast" into a three dimensional artwork using a solid mold. Although superficially easily confused with the more common Papier-mâché, there are distinct differences between the two methods. Cast paper artwork has been used to form lightweight "paper statues" as well as framed, decorative paintings which have a flat back, but an elevated, leveled front side. Although some artists prefer to leave the finished product untouched, paper casting can be decorated or used as decoupage.
